Was just reading the post abouit available managers and i noticed on the link he is no longer in (managerial) work.

Regardless of whether or not Bruce goes ( i for one hope he does) I would like to see Claridge given some sort of coaching role at the club.

He opitimised what the club was about when he played for us and I think he still has a lot of affection for us. I really think he would give some of the players a boot up the backside and help the younger lads with his gritty style and experience

What are your opinions?

would be a nice idea to have him at the club, but don't think Steve would entertain it to be honest :(

I find it had to believe on here that some of you (Willie Tuggy) have to take the 'wee' out of former players like Claridge so what he has or had a bet .. does no one on here bet one way or another.
Claridge would be OK as a 'forward' coach ONLY when SB has gone.
Every think at BCFC is revolving around SB & again I say it will NOT go away till SB goes away.

I think Claridge is best suited to commentating to be honest.

Not seen any evidence that he would make a good coach and i cant see bruce bringing in extra coaches at this point in the season.

I think Claridge will just be one of those people that used to play football and not one of them still involved. I can see him commentating for a while, but not for the rest of his working days.

A bog-standard forward at his best, a pathetic manager at his prime, i get the impression his coaching abilities will float somewhere the two!

Why would anyone pressume claridge would be any good as a coach/manager?
He was a journeyman player at best, and has no track record to speak of. Is it because he used to play for us?
Didnt a certain mr bruce and the equally ridiculed mr francis also play for bcfc???

Not a bad striker whatever some of you might think - won a Coca Cola Cup medal with Leicester didn't he, which is more than many of our other players. Last player at Blues to score 20 league goals too.

Did very well for us (annoying how we didn't spot his medical condition, but Leicester did and had it fixed within months of him joining them), but I wouldn't want him back as a coach or manager.

I think the idea of mentioning Steve Claridge was because of his 'Passion' for the game.

One thing that our club seems to manage to do Extremely Well is to take away the inherent confidence or ability of good/proven goal scorers.

I personally think that to have somebody with a bit of passion to train the forwards would be a great idea.

We are not likely to find (or afford) anyone better than Claridge (IMHO)

i liked claridge - but as a footy manager he'd be all but useless imo

as for passion for the game, we all have that but it doesn't mean we'd all be good footy managers does it?

I have no doubt of Claridges shortcomings as a manager, which is why I was careful to say

I also think there are some pretty well documented personal issues that come with SC and im not sure appoitning people just because they are fans favourites is a good way to run the club.

Otherwise why not go the whole hog and have the dream team of Daish and Barnett as joint manager and Jose, Claridge and mark ward as coaches.?!!

No time to check now but I think he's still the last Blues player to get 20 goals in a season - Bog Standard??? - I really do wonder about some peoples perception of players.

My 'perception' of claridge the player is:

Playing Career Summary
Fareham Town (1983-1984)
Bournemouth F.C. (1984-1985)
Weymouth F.C. (1985-1988)
Crystal Palace (1988)
Aldershot Town (1988-1990)
Cambridge United(1990-1992)
Luton Town (1992)
Cambridge United(1992-1994)
Birmingham City (1994-1996)
Leicester City (1996-1998)
Portsmouth F.C. (1998)
Wolverhampton Wanderers (1998)
Portsmouth F.C. (1998-2001)
Millwall F.C. (2001-2003)
Weymouth F.C. (2003-2004)
Brighton and Hove Albion (2004)
Brentford F.C. (2004-2005)
Wycombe Wanderers (2005)
Millwall F.C. (2005)
Gillingham Town F.C. (2005)
Bradford City (2005-2006)
Walsall F.C. (2006)

He scored 20 goals in a second rate league.
Lets not let emotion cloud judgement on what can at best be described as a 'journeyman' career

I'd say leave Claridge to his pundit job.....

My Bro in law lives in Dorset, as a taxi driver he used to ferry a couple of the Weymouth players around during the time of Claridges rein there. When Claridge was axed he asked those chaps about his management.

They said he was a great dedicated professional as a player, good at man management, but his attitude to the coaching side of managment wasn't the same. Often he would turn up for training late, the players would be waiting around and we are talking like an hour late not just a few minutes......

he must have been man of the match once every 5 games for Blues at least.
